If You’ve Experienced Love, You’ve Experienced God

An Understanding of God, the Bible and Chruch in Just 33 Minutes

Even if you don’t believe in electricity, the lights in your home still work.  Even if you don’t believe in God, the power of love is available to you.  The love of God is available to you.  Have you experienced love in your life from a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, brother or sister, friend or spouse?  For me, feeling the love of another person and feeling the love for another person are almost indescribable experiences.  I’m not sure where those feelings come from or how they are generated, but they can be overwhelming.  The love I have for my children is the most powerful love I have ever experienced.  I would absolutely die for my children without hesitation if called on to do so.  That’s a powerful emotion.  I’m willing to risk anything and everything for them.  I suspect you’ve encountered this kind of love in your life at some time.  Have you wondered where this kind of love comes from?

God’s Love is Available to You

I built this website specifically for you.  This website is all about the love of God.  It doesn’t matter to me if you’re a Christian, as I am, or a non-Christian.  I believe the love of God is available to us all.  I believe that any love you’ve experienced in your life is in fact God at work in your life.  If you’re an unbeliever, you may have questions about God that have gone unanswered.  That may be the reason you are an unbeliever – the whole concept of God may simply seem unreal to you.  And if you’re a believer, you’re probably hoping the unbeliever will stick around long enough to get connected to God in a meaningful way.  Both of you are important to me.  If you are the unbeliever, I suspect you have an open mind and an intellect that seeks out a deeper understanding.  If you are the believer, I suspect you have a strong desire to share your faith with others.  In either case, I’d like to invite you both to spend some time here exploring the love of God.  Let me explain.

God, the Bible, Jesus, and the Christian church are all an important part of my life.  That commitment, that understanding, that life focus is as indescribable to me as the awesome power of love.  If you’re an unbeliever, I can’t tell you how to conjure up that experience, just as I can’t tell you how to develop a love relationship with someone.  What I can do is guide you along a similar path of discovery that I followed and thereby afford you the opportunity to find your own personal connection to God.  And if you’re already a believer in God and the Bible, my goal is to walk with you toward a closer connection to God and a more abundant sharing of the love of God.  So where do we start?

God, The Bible, and Jesus

What do you know about God, the Bible, Jesus and the value of being part of a Christian church?  There’s a good chance that whatever you do know is twisted, distorted, incomplete, or maybe flat out wrong.  If you’ve turned your back on Christianity, or simply ignored Christianity for some reason, understand that the Bible warns of a miserable end to those who turn away from God.  I don’t say that to frighten you, it’s just a fact of Scripture.  Scripture also makes it clear that a miserable end is totally avoidable for absolutely everyone on this planet.  If there is no God or if the Bible is simply a book of stories about God not actually the true Word of God, then you have nothing to worry about; but if the Bible truly is the unaltered Word of God you have some reason for concern.

In just 33 minutes I can supply you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about God, the Bible and trusting Jesus as your Savior.  If I’m wrong about God and the Bible you’ve only wasted 33 minutes.  If I’m right about God and the Bible, you will discover a path to eternal life in just 33 minutes.  But this may not be an easy path to follow.  Here’s why.

Satan Wants You to Stop Reading Now

Understand that if God is real, so is Satan.  And Satan is busy trying to hide the truth about God from the world.  Satan is very clever, extremely charismatic and convincing, he knows how to tempt, allure and control.  Even if you’re part of a church you may have been seduced by Satan’s charms in some way.  Satan knows how to make turning away from God seem like the right thing to do, like the smart thing to do.  He knows precisely how to push your buttons and keep you moving away from God and closer to him.  Are you willing to stand up to Satan in search for God?

In just 33 minutes I’m going to present you with the simple truth about God and the Bible.  If you push beyond all the junk that Satan is using to hide this simple truth, and study this material with your heart and not your cluttered mind, you will without question feel God calling to you.  It will be up to you to take that step of faith and move closer to God.

Do You Have an Open Mind and an Open Heart?

Don’t let all the debate about God hide the truth.  That’s Satan’s tool to keep you distracted.  In just 33 minutes you will have all the knowledge you need to make a truly informed decision about God, the Bible, Jesus Christ and the value of being part of a Christian church.

This is not a challenge to unbelievers; this is simply an offer of understanding.  In just 33 minutes you will discover why Christians believe what they believe and how that leads to a personal relationship with God.

What I Believe

God

The extraordinary complexity of the earth and all of its components, including all forms of life and all of the amazing forces of nature that work together in harmony, cause me to conclude there had to be a designer and creator.  It’s impossible for me to believe the human body simply developed by pure chance.  The way our mind works, the way our bodies adapt and perform, is clear evidence there had to be a designer and a creator.

The Bible

Manuscript evidence confirms the Bible we have today is a near perfect copy of the original documents.  Hundreds of prophecies found in the Bible have been literally fulfilled, many with astounding accuracy.  The New Testament writers were so convicted by their experience and so committed to sharing their eyewitness accounts of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, they did not recant their story even in the face of death.  Most of the Apostles were killed for their faith.  I believe these men actually did witness the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  That miracle alone is enough for me to believe the Bible truly is the Word of God as Jesus said.

God’s Law

I believe God supplied me with a conscience to discern good and evil.  I accept the Ten Commandments as the foundation of God’s Law and as a tool to reveal my God-given conscience.  When I am told to have no other God, I am struck by the vision of others who seek to worship money, power, and other lustful desires; and the second commandment that tells me not to idolize the things of this world rings true in my conscience.  The third commandment reminds me to hold God’s name in reverence and that feels right in light of the fact that I believe He is the awesome Creator of the universe.  The commandments go on to tell me to set aside a day to worship God, to honor my parents, not to murder, not to commit adultery, not to steal, not to lie, and not to covet anything that is my neighbor’s.  All of these commandments fit into my God-given conscience without any hint of objection.  I believe that is because the commandments and my conscience are both creations of God.

Sin

No one can read the Ten Commandments without saying they have broken at least one.  The Bible even makes it clear that if you just hate someone it is equivalent to murder, because God considers what’s in your heart as important as your actions.  Likewise, the Bible also says that if you only lust after another you have committed adultery.   The Bible also goes on to say if you have broken one you have broken them all.  I believe we are all sinners and even though we may be fully committed to following God’s law, we simply do not possess the ability to live a righteous life; for whatever reason God has not provided any of us with that power.  The clear teaching of the Bible tells me because I am a sinner I am doomed to die and suffer eternal torment separated from God, unless I seek Salvation from the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Why God Created Us

I believe God created us because He is the creator.   His mission is to help us grow and be like Him, living an eternal life by His side.  The Bible has clearly taught me that there is only one God.  God is an eternal being who has always been and always will be.  In all eternity, the time we spend here on this earth is but a moment.  God has provided us with this moment to grow in knowledge and wisdom.  Everything we encounter in this life is to that end.  The first and most important lesson we must learn is that we are nothing without God.  We need to look in the mirror of God’s law and realize we don’t even come close to His righteousness, but God has provided us with a way to achieve that righteousness through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Salvation

Achieving the righteousness of God is a simple matter of faith.  The punishment for our sinful nature is death.  Jesus Christ died on the Cross as payment for our sins and anyone can receive the free gift of eternal life, in Heaven with God, by placing their faith in Jesus, trusting Him as their Lord and Savior, and turning from sin with a heart that is focused on being a true follower of Jesus Christ.  There is nothing you have to do to receive God’s free gift of Salvation other than honestly believe in God and seek to follow Jesus with a pure heart.

Knowing Jesus

The most powerful evidence that there is a God and that the Bible is truly the Word of God comes after you’ve taken this step of faith and commit your life to Jesus.  At that moment, your eyes will be open and your mind will be set free from this world.  Everything that I stated above will then be made real to you through that transformation.  The path to that experience is traveled with an open heart, open mind, careful study of God’s Word, and sincere prayer.  This is not religion – this is a personal relationship with God and it is available to all.

  2. God provided you with the Bible so that you can know Him.
  3. The Bible says God is your perfectly loving heavenly Father.
  4. The Bible says God wants you to grow spiritually and become like Him.
  5. The Bible says God wants to give you everything you need to live eternally like Him.
  6.  The Bible is not just a book.  It is the living Word of God.
  7. When you read the Bible with an open heart and mind you will feel God with you.
  8. God wants to be with you.
  9. Your perfectly loving heavenly Father wants to always be with you.
  10. Your perfectly loving heavenly Father wants this to be your choice not His.
  11. Satan is opposed to you meeting God and will do everything possible to keep you away.
  12. Because you are reading this Satan is probably communicating with you right now.
  13. Satan will provide you with a million reasons not to meet with God.
  14. God could stop Satan but He doesn’t want to.  He wants you to make a choice.
  15. Satan wants you to make the choice to serve him and not God.
  16. Satan doesn’t want you to meet God because God is far more powerful than Satan.
  17. Satan is in a battle with God.  Satan already knows he will eventually loose, but he keeps fighting anyway to try and humiliate God.  Satan wants to be God, but there can only be one God and Satan will not accept that, because his ego is so big he can’t face the truth.
  18. God has created this battle, and all the battles since the beginning of time, and all the battles going on inside of you right now, as tools to help you grow spiritually.
  19. God allows all the ugliness of the world we live in so that you can know the difference between good and evil, so that you can feel rage, and experience joy.  God protects the spirit of those who believe in him no matter what pain they may endure in this world.
  20. God is ultimately in control, but for now, for this moment in all eternity, God is allowing Satan to manipulate this world.  God will one day stop Satan and destroy him.
  21. God wants to meet you so that He can explain His plan for your life personally.
  22. Satan doesn’t want you to hear God’s plan.
  23. Satan wants you to believe God has left you and this world alone to fend for itself.
  24. The Bible teaches you that God is an all powerful spirit being and can be everywhere always.
  25. God is with you right now.  He’s waiting for you to meet with Him.
  26. The Bible teaches you that God is all knowing.  He knows if you will meet with Him today or if you will wait for another day, or if you will continue to avoid Him forever.
  27. Satan does not possess the powers of God, he cannot be all places at once, and he does not know what you will choose, and he doesn’t want you to know that if you choose to avoid God you have by default selected to follow Satan to total destruction.  Satan is going down and he wants to take as many people with him as possible.
  28. The Bible tells you that Satan is the grand deceiver.  While he cannot be everywhere at once he has many demons all over the world that do his work for him.  They get into your mind and point you in the wrong direction.  They deceive you into believing you will be happier without knowing God.
  29. Satan wants you to believe that knowing God means you will have a restricted life.
  30. When you meet God you will discover there are no restrictions at all.
  31. Satan wants you to believe that there are many requirements to truly know God.
  32. God wants you to know there are only two, that you love God with all your heart and that you love your neighbor as yourself.
  33. Satan wants you to believe that it is humiliating to love God with all your heart.
  34. When you meet God and discover He is your perfectly loving heavenly Father that wants nothing more than your love so that He may bestow upon you His perfect love you will understand why Satan is so jealous.
  35. God loves you so much he created a way for you to wash away all the wrongs you’ve done in your life.  God wants you to be perfect like Him, and He has created you in a way that you cannot be perfect without God’s help.
  36. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to walk the earth and teach you all about God.  God wants you to know Him as well as He knows you and by studying the life of Jesus you will come to know God fully.
  37. God allowed His Son Jesus to die on a cross as payment for all the wrongs you’ve done in your life.  God wants you to know that you can be perfect and blameless like Him by simply accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior.
  38. Satan believes he can become perfect like God in his own power.  He’s wrong.
  39. God wants you to know you can become like God by simply believing in the work of the Cross.  There is absolutely nothing you have to do to receive this gift from God other than believe.
  40. The Bible tells you that Jesus and God are one and that if you believe in Jesus you will receive the Holy Spirit of God to live inside you.  The Holy Spirit is also God.  God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are one God.
  41. If you meet with God and accept His free gift of salvation through Jesus you will come to know God in a profoundly personal way.
  42. Once you know God, Satan’s lies will just seem like silly nonsense.
  43. If you don’t know God, Satan’s lies seem like absolute truth and everything the Bible says about God seems like silly nonsense.
  44. Take the time to meet with God and then decide for yourself.
  45. He’s waiting to meet with you now.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.”  Jesus

What Does the Bible Say About Love?

Bible Verses on Love

In many ways, the Bible is a love story.  It’s a story about God’s everlasting love for us and how our love for Him is the key to living a fulfilled and complete life on this earth, and how to continue that life into eternity.  That’s an amazing story and if you’ve never read the Bible from cover-to-cover, I suggest you set aside some time to do just that as soon as possible.  For now, let’s take a close look at the question, “What does the Bible say about love?”  When asked about the most important commandments, Jesus said there are two things that fulfill the whole law.  First we must love God and second we should love our neighbor.  He was really quoting from the Old Testament.

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”  (Deuteronomy 6:5)

“You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the LORD.”  (Leviticus 19:18)

As we study more Bible verses on love, we discover the Bible tells us that love starts with God.  God first loved us and we connect to that love by loving God in return.  As a result of our love for God, we will then love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  It’s kind of like an electrical circuit that gets plugged into the main grid and spreads out to cities and towns down the line.  The main source of love is God and we can tap into that awesome power and share it with others once we make that connection with Him.  This is important, because the Bible tells us that those who lack love are in trouble.

“The LORD keeps all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy.”  (Psalm 145:20)

Later in the New Testament Jesus tells us to love our enemies.  I understand this to mean that God indeed loves the wicked; but if they remain wicked and without love, He, being a just God, will administer that justice by destroying them.  Nevertheless, God is a loving father and will make attempts to push people in the right direction before he seeks to destroy them.

“For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.”  (Proverbs 3:12)

Tough love was not invented recently; God perfected this method of training a long time ago.  I dare say we all need a little tough love from God on occasion.  I know my God is fair and gives the wicked every opportunity to turn away from their wickedness and seek a loving relationship with God.  The Bible tells us that anyone who wants to partake of God’s love has that option if they are sincere in their effort.

“I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me.”  (Proverbs 8:17)

The Source for Love is God

What does the Bible say about love?  The source for love is God.  God loves those who love Him.  But what exactly is love?  How does the Bible describe love?

“Many waters cannot quench love, Nor will rivers overflow it; If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, It would be utterly despised.”  (Song of Solomon 8:7)

We learn in the above passage that love is of enormous value and immense in size.  Love is not something we should take lightly.  This is very different from the ordinary human love we may have experienced apart from God.  God’s love is pure and undefiled, far more powerful that anything we humans can conjure up.  Consider the most well-known Bible scripture of all, John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

What an extraordinary act of love that is.  There is no greater love that that!

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”  (John 15:13)

We will never match the love God has for us.  Yet the power of God’s love is available to us if we simply love Him in return as best we can.  As Jesus taught, love is the one thing there is no law against because it does no wrong.

“Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”  (Romans 13:10)

Love is truly the most important thing we can take away from the Bible.  Nothing else is of any importance if we don’t have love.  And when we do take hold of God’s pure love, we take on a force that endures all things and nurtures everyone in every situation.

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.  And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. “  (1 Corinthians 13)

What if this World was Full of Love?

What a beautiful world we would live in if everyone was able to walk with this kind of love each and every day.  We as mere humans will never be able to live a purely loved filled life but the Bible tells us this has to be our goal.

“Let all that you do be done in love.”  (1 Corinthians 16:14)

And the Bible offers us some practical steps to achieve this goal.

“Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”  (2 Corinthians 13:11)

Jesus Christ gave His life on the Cross for us and the Bible offers that as an example of how a husband should love his wife.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her”  (Ephesians 5:25)

The Bible tells us that love brings people together like nothing else.

“Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.”  (Colossians 3:14)

The Bible tells us that sincere love can even protect us from the wrongs we do in our life.

“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.”  (1 Peter 4:8)

Even though love is a constant theme in the Bible and Jesus teaches to love unconditionally, we are told that this world we live in is not worthy of our love.  The implication is that the love of money, power, and personal pleasure found so common in this world is abhorrent to God.

“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”  (1 John 2:15)

We learn in the above passage that love for the things of this world is a sure sign that you are not yet connected to the pure love of God.

Perhaps one of the most important distinctions the Bible makes about love is that it is not just a feeling  - it is an action.  Love is something you do, not something you feel.  If you are connected to the pure love of God,  you will be finding ways to act out on that love every day.

“Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.”  (1 John 3:18)

If You Know Love You’ve Been Touched by God

The Bible has much more to say about love than what I’ve presented in this brief study.  It’s difficult to paint a clear picture of love without a careful reading of the entire Bible.  When you study the Bible from cover-to-cover,  you will come to realize a more vivid understanding of this extraordinary force.  If you truly know love you have been touched by God.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”  (1 John 4:7)

The source of love is God.  All we have to do to tap into that source is reciprocate.

“We love, because He first loved us.”  (1 John 4:19)

Indeed the most profound statement made about love in the Bible is the simple understanding that God is love.  Know God and you know love.  Seek God and you will find His pure love.

“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”  (1 John 4:16)

What are the Ten Commandments of God?

A List of the Ten Commandments Reveals God’s Expectations

The Ten Commandments of God are God’s moral code also known as God’s Law.  The Law is the tool God uses to demonstrate how we humans simply don’t measure up to His Holy standards.  Dr. J. Vernon McGee describes the Law of God in this way:  “The Law is the expression of the mind of God relative to what man ought to be.”   Our inability to keep the Ten Commandments is a glaring example of our need for a Savior.  Praise God for sending His Son to die on our behalf so that we may have life eternal by believing in Him.

Looking closer at the Ten Commandments in the Bible

The Bible informs us that if we have broken one of the Ten Commandments we have broken them all, and are therefore not considered righteous in the eyes of God.  This is called sin, and the penalty for sin is death; however, Jesus died on the Cross on our behalf and if we believe in Him our penalty has been paid and we may receive the free gift of eternal life.  If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are no longer under the Law because you have been saved by the grace of God.  However, that doesn’t mean you ignore the Ten Commandments – it means you are more aware of them than ever before; because if you are a true believer your central purpose in life will be to follow Jesus.

“What then?  Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?  May it never be!” (Romans 6:15)

In order to answer the question, “What are the Ten Commandments of God?” we need to turn in our Bibles to Exodus 20 and look at each commandment one by one.  We will also use additional verses from the Bible to clarify the deeper meaning of each commandment.

The Ten Commandments

1 – 4 Your Relationship with God

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.

When Jesus was asked which of the laws is the most important he responded this way:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Your personal relationship with God is by far the most important aspect of your life as a Christian believer.  The world we live in is full of people who tend to make things other than God their central focus.  Money, power, and personal pleasure are often worshiped in place of God.  The first commandment tells us there is to be no other god worshipped.  Jesus tells us we are to love our God with all our heart, soul, and mind.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.

Our Creator is a living God, not an inanimate object such as a statue or painting.  Believers in Jesus Christ are empowered by the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of every believer.  It is that spirit of God that we are to worship, not man-made objects.  Jesus put it this way:

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”  (John 4:24)

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

If you honestly believe that God is the Creator of all things, how could you use His name as an ordinary curse word, or statement of amazement, or simply toss it out as an every-day figure of speech?   This is the Lord your God whom you love with all your heart, soul, and mind.

“For in Him we live and move and exist…” (Acts 17:28)

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy.

Setting apart one day a week to worship God is so important that God included it in his top ten list.  You don’t have to go far in the Bible to learn Satan is actively pushing people away from God.  The Bible calls Satan “the god of this world”

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”  (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Worshiping together is an important aspect of our battle against Satan and his deception.  The mere fact that believers spend time together in fellowship builds a wall around those who participate that protects and defends against the schemes of the devil.

“…and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.”  (Hebrews 10:24-25)

5 – 10 Your Relationship with Other People

5. Honor thy father and thy mother.

Families are the foundation of great societies.  Strong families build strong societies.  When families fail, the results begin to travel beyond the family and into the community.  Understanding the importance of strong families is the message God delivers in this commandment.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.  And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”  (Ephesians 6:1-4)

6. Thou shalt not murder.

Human life is precious.  Destroying God’s creation is wrong.  The Bible has a lot to say about vengeance and hate for your fellow man.

“Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” (1 John 3:15)

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”  (Romans 12:21)

Jesus offered this advice:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”  (Matthew 5:9)

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Man and woman were designed to be together.

“For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”  (Genesis 2:24)

This relationship is clearly established in the first book of the Bible.  The book of proverbs has some profound wisdom on this subject.

“The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy himself does it.” (Proverbs  6:32)

We find similar warnings in the New Testament.

“Flee immorality.  Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.”  (1 Corinthians 6:18)

And Jesus takes the entire discussion one step further looking into a man’s heart.

“But I say to you, that everyone who looks on a woman to lust for her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.”  (Matthew 5:28)

8. Thou shalt not steal.

Most people understand that God’s expectation for His people is that they live a life of generosity rather than greed.  A follower of Jesus Christ should be focused on giving and serving and be unimpressed by material possessions.  Godly love defeats the desire to steal.

The believer’s treasure is not something that can be acquired here on this earth.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal”  (Matthew 6:19-20)

Keep in mind you can break this commandment in what may be considered an innocent way in our secular society.  Taking home office supplies from work without permission is stealing.  When a cashier returns to you more change than required, it is stealing not to give back the incorrect amount.  There are many more examples of seemingly indirect stealing that we could come up with, but I’m sure you understand God sees all stealing as inappropriate.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Truth is a prominent aspect of God’s character.

“But Thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.”  (Psalm 86:15)

Jesus makes this clear statement about truth being a part of His character:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”  (John 14:6)

In our secular society almost everyone tries to balance the risk of being caught against the believed reward of lying.  It’s not at all difficult to find a business, organization or individual who is involved in some kind of deceit.   The world we live in is a great sadness to God.

“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.”  (Proverbs 12:22)

The pervasiveness of lying in our culture is the work of the devil who works day and night along with his demons to deceive and misdirect the world into behaving contrary to God’s will.

“…the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world…”  (Revelation 12:9)

Believers in Jesus Christ have the help of the Holy Spirit to overcome the inborn desire to manipulate the truth that we all share.  Believers are to focus on their new born-again self and push away the deception of the devil.

“…in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”  (Ephesians 4:22-24)

10. Thou shalt not covet anything that is thy neighbor’s.

The tenth commandment is not so much about what we should do in our life but goes deeper by considering what we should think.  God is probably more concerned with our thoughts than our actions because are motives define everything we do.

Jesus said this:

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.  All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”  (Mark 7:21-23)

When we crave or desire that which we do not possess, we defile our heart and turn away from God.  When Jesus was asked which of the laws was most important, you will remember He said we must love God with all our heart, soul and mind.  And then He went further to suggest a second most important commandment:

“And a second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  (Matthew 22:39)

Envy of your neighbor’s possessions is not a result of love.  If we truly love God and our neighbor we are thankful for all that God has provided and pleased by our neighbor’s good fortune.  There is no need to desire more for ourselves if we believe that God has giving us all that we need and will continue to do so as long as we place our trust in Him.

Jesus offered this advice:

“Do not be anxious then, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘With what shall we clothe ourselves?’ … But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.”  (Matthew 6:31-33)

God wants us to be concerned with others and not ourselves.  God wants our hearts focused on giving not receiving.   The Ten Commandments reflect the nature of God and paint a clear picture of his desire for us all to spend our time here on this earth fully immersed in God’s love, worshipping Him and sharing His love with everyone around us.

Christian Writers Needed

Donate Your Writing Talent to Help Seek and Save the Lost

In an effort to expand the reach of just33minutes.com, I’m putting out the call: Christian Writers Wanted – Christian Writers Needed to promote this site to the world and help bring the Gospel to as many lost souls as possible by creating a constant flow of new unbelievers and believers who will help carry the message forward.

Millions of people search the Internet daily for God or a connection to God that they don’t know how to make.  These are people who are dealing with any number of emotional issues such as addiction, abusive relationships, thoughts of suicide, loneliness, divorce, loss of a loved one, the feeling there is no hope.  Alone at their computer they type in any number of search terms in an attempt to find some connection that will help them get beyond their pain.  For whatever reason, these people don’t feel there is anyone they can turn to or confide in for comfort and advice.  Some are embarrassed to admit they are in need.  Some are embarrassed to admit they are searching for God. Some are completely unaware of exactly what they are searching for.  As a result, the Internet has become a fertile field for those of us who are committed to helping God seek and save the lost.  The Internet makes it possible for us to go into all the world without ever leaving the comfort or our home.  The Internet makes it possible for us to connect with those searching for God in a whole new way.

The central purpose of just33minutes.com is to provide resources for discovering and sharing Christian faith.  In addition, just33minutes.com is designed to be a tool to help new believers grow in their faith, find a place of worship, and become a committed follower of Jesus Christ.  As this site develops, more and more tools will be provided to help lead unbelievers to Christ, move fallen away believers back to the church, and to provide inspiration and fellowship to believers who share a passion for helping lost souls find God.  It’s vitally important that we provide as many avenues to God as possible on the Internet so that those searching will easily find an approach that speaks to their heart.  My prayer is that just33minutes.com will be one of many such sites that provide a unique and inviting message of hope, trust, and compassion to those searching for the most important connection of their life.  My prayer is that thousands will come to know Jesus Christ as a result of their visit to this website.  Furthermore, my prayer is that thousands will use just33minutes.com to share their faith with friends and family.

When people use the Internet to search for a connection to God, they are at a place in their life that makes them open to an honest discussion of the Scripture.  Many of these people are being guided by the Lord toward greater understanding; our job is to be there for them and guide them to Salvation through Jesus Christ.  If you skim the pages of just33minutes.com you will find many different approaches to sharing the Gospel and overcoming the deception of the world we live in.  My goal is to get as many Internet seekers pointed toward just33minutes.com as possible.   My prayer is that once these lost souls arrive at just33minutes.com they will find an article or video that speaks directly to their heart.

How You Can Use Your Talent to Help

Google is the main tool used for Internet searches and that is the focus of this seeker gathering process and where you can be an enormous asset.  When anyone types in a search term into the Google search engine, super computers go to work to almost instantly select the most relevant websites to respond to that specific search query.  Most search terms return millions of possible choices; for that reason, Google uses mathematical formulas to determine which websites to present on the first page of that search.  Just33minutes already has several search terms that deliver a page one ranking in the Google search results, and one of the main tools used to get that placement was links from other websites directed at just33minutes.com.  I acquired those links by writing and posting small articles on other websites along with links back to just33minutes.com.  This is a lot of work, and takes away from my ability to develop new material for just33minutes.  In addition, I’m not able to write enough articles alone to build the number of links needed to keep this site constantly ranking high in search query results.  It would be a tremendous blessing if other talented writers would write articles that contain links back to just33minuts.com and post those articles at the various article posting sites around the Internet.

For those who are unaware, here are three potential article posting sites for you to visit:

EzineArticles

HubPages

GoArticles

The above list is just a small sample.  There are many more such sites on the Internet where writers can post articles for free and include links back to other websites.  Most of these posting sites allow the writer to include at least two links per article, which means you may include a link back to the just33minutes home page and another link directly to something on just33minutes.com that is particularly relevant to the article you’re posting.  Generally an article of about 400 words is all that’s needed to post on one of these sites.  You can write an article specifically about just33minutes.com or something that augments any of the topics found on the site.

Words of Encouragement from the Bible

The Way Forward for New Believers

If you’ve sincerely confessed your sinful nature to the Lord and trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you’ve made the first step to becoming a Christian.  Now it is your task to turn your heart fully toward Jesus and seek to walk with Him.  If your heart is truly in the right place, you will be filled with the Holy Spirit and be born again into a new life as a child of God.  Becoming a Christian is the most important event in your life.  Jesus suffered and died on the cross as payment for your sins and rose again on the third day.  If you have turned from your sin and put your faith in Jesus, you are saved by the grace of God.  That salvation can never be taken away.  You can be certain that this work that God started in your heart will be carried on to completion.

“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 1:6)

As a new believer there are some important steps you need to consider as you move forward.  Take the time to consider each of these steps with careful study of the Bible and a good deal of time spent in prayer.

Discipleship

You can’t make this journey alone.  It’s vitally important that you find mature Christians to guide you in the right direction.  You may have Christian friends who introduced you to Jesus, in which case you are well on your way toward developing the kinds of relationships that will help you grow as a Christian.  If you found Jesus on your own and have no Christian friends who can help you find a church family, take some time visiting several churches before selecting one to call your home.  One of the sure signs that you have been saved will be your desire to associate with other Christians.

“We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren.”  (1John 3:14)

Look for a church where the pastor believes firmly in the Word of God and encourages members to look at the text as he preaches.  Your pastor should have a humble heart and gentle spirit.  Your pastor should be focused on glorifying God, pointing the congregation toward Jesus, and providing insight into God’s Word.  Your pastor’s teaching is central to your church experience and should be considered before all else.  You will know if your pastor is feeding you solid food or not.  If you don’t feel like your spirit is being nourished, move on to another church.

It’s important that you eventually find a church where you’re comfortable and can make friends.  It serves no purpose to keep bouncing around from church to church endlessly.  Understand that no pastor can deliver a great message every Sunday and no church is perfect.  Settle for a church where you feel comfortable, the pastor is teaching from the Word, and the congregation worships the Lord in a style that appeals to your spiritual personality.

Bible Study

A healthy Christian knows the Word of God inside and out.  If you have not already done so, you must begin a complete study of the Bible from cover-to-cover.  A complete reading of the Bible takes an average reader between 80 and 90 hours.  It makes no sense to race your way through the Bible, but completing the reading in as brief a time as possible will help you understand how it all fits together.  Take a look at my Master the Bible in 90 Days program and consider taking on this challenge.  Without question, you will be greatly blessed by the experience.

“Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation”  (1 Peter 2:2)

Once you’ve completed a complete reading of the Bible, continue to study the Word in various other ways.  Join a Bible study group, ask you pastor to recommend books to study about the Bible, listen to one of the new audio Bibles; it’s important that you stay in the Word continuously so that the deception of this world has no effect on you.  The Bible is the only tool that can personally connect you with God in a tangible way.

“For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”  (Hebrews 4:12)

If you can find a good Christian mentor who is willing to guide you in your personal Bible study, that would be the best situation.  You will be able to pray together and your mentor will be able to select a study program that fits you specifically.

However you proceed in your Bible study, remember to pray for guidance and wisdom before you read and treat your time alone with the Word as time alone with God.

Prayer

Prayer takes many forms.  As a Christian, your life should be one continuous prayer as you constantly dialogue with God throughout your day.  He is always with you and you should always be aware of that fact and talk to Him as a friend, and seek His advice as your loving Heavenly Father.  There are also times when you will pray together with other believers, or during a church service, and special times when you find a quiet place to make special requests and appeals.

Prayer should always start with worship and devotion to God as the all-powerful Creator of all things, the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings.  Address Him with reverence and the knowledge that He knows best what your needs are.  What you want is often not what you need, and you should approach God with that understanding.

We should constantly be thanking God for all that He has given us, including our life, our loved ones, our friends, the food we eat, the water we drink.  Everything we have is a result of God working in our life.  Before we ask Him for anything, we need to thank Him for everything – even the hardship in our life – because that is something He has assigned to us for spiritual growth.

Once you have acknowledged God and all His glory and thanked Him for all He has given you, then you may make a request of Him.  While you may be asking for a specific desire or need, come to God knowing that He will fulfill your request in His own way and in His own time.  The answer to your prayer may be “Yes” and it may be “No.”  The answer to your prayer may be a revelation of another possibility that you had not yet considered.  The answer to your prayer may not materialize for several days or several years, but you must come to the Lord with honest faith in Him and a sincere heart, trusting Him to hear your petition and to deliver precisely what is best for your eternal existence.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”  (Hebrews 11:6)

Bible study and your prayer life are the most important connections you have to God and they should be central to your growth as a believer.

Know the Enemy

As a Christian you now fully understand that God is real.  You must also acknowledge that Satan is real as well.  Satan now has you in his crosshairs and you can be certain he will do everything in his power to turn you away from God.  Satan’s primary tools will be your own fleshly desires for money, power, and sexual gratification.  You will have a battle within yourself that will need to be dealt with on a daily basis.

“…but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.”  (Romans 7:23)

As a believer you have been forgiven for your sins, but you still possess that sinful nature and must keep it in check through prayer, constant study of the Word of God, and fellowship with other believers.  In addition, Satan will use the world around you to push you away from God and to deceive you into a false understanding of your Christian faith.  You must avoid this false teaching at all cost.

“Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but from the world.”  (1 John 2:15-16)

The best way to stand against Satan and his demons is to arm yourself properly.

“Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”  (Ephesians 6:11)

“Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”  (Ephesians 6:14-17)

As a believer, the Holy Spirit is inside you and has the ability to defeat all the devil has to throw at you; but you have to call on that power through prayer and sincere faith in God.  This battle will not end until Jesus returns.

Baptism

Many new believers feel like standing on a mountain and shouting their faith in God to the world.  The overwhelming sense of joy that overcomes a new believer is often hard to contain.  The Bible offers the perfect tool for proclaiming your faith publically.

“Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ…”  (Acts 2:38)

Baptism is a public declaration of your faith and willingness to follow Jesus.  Once you have trusted Jesus as your Savior, your next big step should be baptism through immersion.  The pictured painted by this method of baptism is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  As a new believer you have been born again into a new life as a follower of Jesus.

Understand that baptism does not save you.  Baptism is a process that follows your salvation and is a testimony to that which has already taken place.  Baptism is a sacred symbol of your conversion and a public declaration of your commitment to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Stand Firm in Your Belief

Skeptics, deceivers, cultists, atheists, and others will try to challenge your faith on a regular basis.  Your adherence to continuous Bible study and fellowship with other believers will protect you from their intimidation.  Seek out other books and videos that will help you grow in your Christian faith.  You’ll find several resources recommended on this website and you should also consult with the pastor of your church and your Christian friends for additional recommendations.

“…for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction…”  (1 Thessalonians 1:5)

As a born-again believer, you are empowered with the Holy Spirit to guide you and protect you.  When you call on the Holy Spirit you will feel God’s awesome power flowing through your body and thereby reaffirm your faith in His promise to protect you from the evil one.

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”  (Romans 8:16)

Christians are not immune to problems.  There is no doubt going to be trouble ahead that will test your faith.  Keep in mind that God is working on your behalf and will always provide you with the tools you need to move beyond any problem.  The truth is, without problems we cannot grow as Christians; therefore, praise God for the difficulties in your life and work with Him to overcome and move closer to Him through your acquired wisdom, knowledge, and strength.

“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.”  (Psalm 9:10)

I pray these spiritual lessons will help you arrive firmly on the right path toward fellowship with God and continued blessing as you travel forward in your new life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

When Will the World End According to the Bible?

When is the world going to end?
How is the world going to end?
Is the world going to end?

Questions regarding the world’s demise are common and there are some detailed answers in the pages of the Bible.  The book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, offers a complete response to the question, when will the world end according to the Bible.  This book was written by the Apostle John and is the direct revelation of Jesus Christ given to John via an angel.  In this vision, Jesus speaks directly to John and provides many insights into what is to come at the end of this world.  After hearing from Jesus, John is called into heaven to see all the details that surround the end times.  The precise answer to when this will all happen is not given, but a careful study will reveal several signs we can look for that may signal the end is near.

My goal in this writing is to simplify the basic understanding of the Book of Revelation and deliver all the important points and events as briefly as possible.  My hope is that this reading will inspire you to open your Bible and study the book of Revelation for yourself so that you can fully absorb the awesome details and wonderfully complete descriptions of these events as they unfold in the pages of the Bible.  My resource for this writing was “Revelation Unveiled” by Tim LaHaye, which is probably the best tool for helping the average reader understand the book of Revelation.

Christ and the Church Age

In the first three chapters of Revelation, Jesus spends a good deal of time explaining precisely what is wrong with the church and individual Christians, and goes into great detail discussing what is needed of every believer to continue forward into eternity with Him.  Jesus addresses seven specific ancient churches that some believe are examples of the entire Christian church throughout time, right up until our present day.  He makes clear that He is the path to salvation and that the Word of God is the best weapon believers have to fight the devil.  Jesus also points out that He is the source of all God’s creation and He will one day judge all people.  The basic understanding that can be gained from His teaching is that those churches and individual Christians that hold true to the Word of God and continue to follow Jesus will be protected and those that don’t are in deep trouble and need to change course and get pointed back toward God.

Jesus goes on to share His description of salvation by repeatedly addressing those who “overcome” which is His name for believers.  He reminds believers that they will live forever in God’s paradise and that they have been saved from judgment by their faith in Jesus Christ.  Jesus also reminds believers that he will rule as their king here on earth and it is their sins that have been “overcome” by Jesus’ death on the Cross.  Though believers remain sinners they have been forgiven for that sin by trusting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  Jesus makes it clear that believers are eternally identified with Christ and therefore have access to the Holy City which is to come.

“ He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”   (Revelation 3:21)

The Throne of God

After Jesus talks about the church, He shows John a door to heaven and calls him up to the throne of God.  This is an awesome sight that is detailed in the fourth chapter of Revelation.  Jesus sits on the throne surrounded by 24 elders that are representatives of twelve tribes of Israel from the Old Testament and the twelve apostles from the New Testament.  There are also lamps representing the seven sprits of God: The Spirit of the Lord, wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, and the Spirit of the fear of the Lord.  In addition there are four living creatures – a lion, a calf, a man, and an eagle that are engaged in continuous worship of the Lord.  Before the throne there is a sea of glass that may represent the calm sea of life that is granted by the Word of God.  It’s hard to say precisely what this vision is describing, but it’s clear John has been brought to the center of God’s domain.

While standing at the throne of God, John sees that Jesus is holding a scroll with seven seals.  Seven is God’s number of perfection and this scroll is believed to basically be the title deed to the earth.  The first man, Adam, originally had title to the earth but it was lost to Satan who is currently in control of the world; but it is now made clear to John that Jesus is going to take the scroll and open the seven seals.  At this point, John sees millions of angels singing praise to our Lord.

The Rapture

What is to follow is a description of what is known as the Tribulation period of seven years.  It’s important to note that Christian believers will be spared from this horrible time in world history.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 tells believers that Jesus will rescue them from the wrath to come and in the book of Revelation we find this:

“Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.”   (Revelation 3:10)

The understanding of these and several other Scripture passages informs us that followers of Jesus Christ will be transported to be with the Lord before the seven year Tribulation period begins.  This is commonly referred to as the rapture of the church.  For Christian believers, the rapture of the church will be the end of the world as we now know it.  Believers will return to the earth after the Tribulation period to a completely new and beautiful world as we will see later.

The Seven Seal Judgments

Those who do not believe before the rapture occurs will be left behind to endure the many horrible events of the Tribulation period.  As Jesus opens the seven seals of the scroll, the events of the first quarter of the Tribulation (about 21 months) are revealed to John.  Satan will ride into town with promises of solving the world’s problems by building a one world government.  There will be war, famine, and death followed by a great earthquake and meteors falling to the earth followed by mountains and islands moved out of their places.  The good that is to come of this judgment is that 144,000 Jewish people will come to believe in Jesus and begin to evangelize the world with enormous success.  Perhaps billions will be saved and become believers but they will have to endure the rest of this awful time before joining the Lord in eternity.

The Seven Trumpet Judgments

This description of the first 21 months of the Tribulation is pretty bad, but it gets worse.  After the seven seals are opened, John witnesses the soundings of seven trumpets that denote still more judgments that will come.  In apparent response to the prayers of God’s people to avenge Himself on those who blaspheme against Him, God strikes out with thunder, lightning, and another earthquake just before the first trumpet is sounded.  The first trumpet brings “hail and fire mixed with blood” burning up a third of the earth.  The second trumpet brings what appears to be an enormous meteor described as a mountain on fire crashing into the sea killing a third of the life in the sea as well as a third of all ships.  The third trumpet brings another meteor from the sky that takes out a third of the rivers and makes some of the water undrinkable, killing many people.  The fourth trumpet affects the sun, moon, and stars changing the earth to a sixteen hour night and an eight hour day.

At this point there is a pause in the action as the last three trumpets are prepared.  This is the calm before the storm, because what comes next is going to be even worse.  On the sounding of the fifth trumpet, the “shaft of the Abyss” is opened and smoke pours out followed by locusts with scorpion power that have faces of men and appear to be like horses prepared for battle.  It is believe these are spirits and will not actually be seen by men.  Their mission is to torment with their scorpion sting for five months those who do not have the seal of God on their forehead.  After this, the sixth trumpet is sounded and four angels are released to kill a third of mankind.  Presumably these people are those who still reject Jesus Christ and will never change from their rebellious ways.

Before the last trumpet is sounded, John is apparently taken back to the earth where he is confronted by an angel who seems to emphasize the need for John to fully consume the Word of God and to prepare himself to write the book of Revelation.  We are also told in this interlude before the final trumpet sounds that two powerful witnesses of God will be on the earth at this time to warn the people of things to come.  They will preach for 42 months which is the first half of the Tribulation period.  At the end of this time, Satan will kill them and they will be left in the street for three days.  The whole world will see them dead in the street for three days and much of the world will celebrate their demise.  This party will all end on the third day when these two witnesses of God will once again come back to life and in front of the world ascend to heaven.  This is followed by another earthquake and many will turn to God as a result.

“And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.”   (Revelation 11:13)

When the seventh trumpet is sounded, the twenty-four elders sing praise to God and announce His coming judgment, followed by more lightning and thunder signaling the final phase of judgment is about to take place.

Second Half of the Seven Year Tribulation Period

We now come to chapter twelve of the book of Revelation and this begins the second half, or second three and a half years of the Tribulation period.  Before the final judgments known as the Bowl Judgments are proclaimed, John is given several important visions of what is to come.  We learn that Satan has been in heaven since the beginning of time with access to the throne of God.  He is called “the accuser of our brethren.”  But at the middle of the Tribulation period, after a brief war led by the archangel Michael, Satan and his fallen angles will be cast down to earth never to return to heaven.  We are told that once Satan is gone, there will be cause for great rejoicing in heaven.

John’s vision also indicates the remaining Jews will hide in the desert of Jordan and an evil ruler known as the Antichrist will send an army after them to kill them, but God will intervene and the earth will swallow up that anti-Semitic army.  This Antichrist will be the ruler of the one world government and is controlled by Satan but is not Satan himself.  In the first three and one-half years the Jews will have an alliance with the Antichrist, but here just before the second three and one-half years he will break that deal and try to kill them.  Also during this mid-Tribulation period, it is believed the Antichrist is killed and at this point Satan indwells the Antichrist to bring him back to life and replicate the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus.  Therefore, in the second half of the Tribulation, the Antichrist is in fact Satan and he will be worshiped as a god as a result of the miracles he performs.

It also seems to be the case here at the mid-point of the Tribulation period that most of the believers who came to trust Jesus as a result of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists, have now been martyred for their faith.  Another aspect of Satan’s power known as the False Prophet, will lead the worship of the Antichrist and those who do not worship him will be killed.  Everyone will have a mark on their forehead or hand, the number 666, which will allow them to buy and sell and also mark them for all eternity as having rejected Christ.

John is then introduced to a second group of 144,000 which are believed to be the most trusted non-Jewish believers.  This group is in heaven with God and will receive special rewards as a result of their exemplary service to God.  It is also revealed that God will send an angel to earth at this mid-point to share the Gospel one last time with everyone on earth.  John also hears warnings from other angels telling of the destruction of the false church that was in power during the first half of the Tribulation, now destroyed by the Antichrist.  Another warning pronounces doom on those who worship the Antichrist.  Finally John gets a warning of what is to come after the Lord returns to destroy the Antichrist and his followers.

The Seven Bowl Judgments

The stage is now set for the final judgments that are to come.  John now sees the Temple of the Tabernacle of God, or the Holy of Holies, and seven angels leaving with seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God.  From this point forward no created being will have access to the throne of God until the end of the Tribulation.  God is for the most part no longer dealing with people in mercy.  From this point forward, he will deal with humans in judgment.

“Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”  (Revelation 16:1)

The first bowl judgment delivers ugly and painful sores on those who worship the Antichrist.  The second bowl judgment turns all the seas to blood and kills all living creatures in the sea.  It’s hard to imagine all the creatures of the seas washing ashore dead, but this is what will happen at this time. The third bowl judgment is a kind of sequel to the one before; this judgment turns all the rivers and streams to blood, seemingly eliminating all drinking water.  This will certainly cause panic and confusion.  The fourth bowl judgment allows the sun to scorch people with fire.  The fifth bowl judgment plunges the Antichrist’s kingdom into total darkness which causes great agony.  The sixth bowl judgment dries up the mighty Euphrates River which will prompt Satan to send out demons that preform miraculous signs to seduce all the kings of the world to join together for a battle against God in the Valley of Megiddo, which is located in Palestine.

The final bowl judgment comes with lightning, thunder, and the largest earthquake ever.  The capital city of the Antichrist will be Babylon and it will be destroyed and all the cities of the nations will collapse.  All the mountains and islands will disappear and hundred pound hailstones will fall from the sky.  This sounds like total destruction.

The Destruction of Babylon

Chapters 17 & 18 of Revelation deliver details of the destruction of the two forms of Babylon.  Chapter 17 details the destruction of religious Babylon which is the idol worshiping one- world religion that was destroyed by the Antichrist at the mid-point of the Tribulation period.  Now at the end of the Tribulation, chapter 18 details the destruction of commercial Babylon, the center of the government of the Antichrist.  Babylon is located in Iraq and there’s not much there now, but apparently the Antichrist will rebuild Babylon to make it the center of his kingdom.  Chapter 18 describes the new Babylon’s total destruction.

The Return of Jesus

The stage is now set for the return of Jesus.  Once again, John sees the heavens standing open with Jesus emerging on a white horse followed by all the believers who joined Him during the rapture.  He will come to destroy the armies in the Valley of Megiddo at the battle of Armageddon.  Then Satan will turn his attention to the destruction of Jerusalem; Jesus will stop him and capture the Antichrist and the False Prophet and throw them into the Lake of Fire.  Satan, who has left the Antichrist, is also captured but he is not thrown into the Lake of Fire at this time; instead he is chained in the Abyss for a thousand years.

The Millennial Kingdom

Believers in Jesus will now reign with Christ as priests for a thousand years here on earth which God will renew after the destruction resulting from the Tribulation period.  During this time, Believers will have eternal life but those who are born during the thousand year Kingdom period will again have the free will to accept or reject Christ.  It seems to be the case that those who do not receive Christ by the age of 100 will die.

At the end of the 1000 year Kingdom period, Satan will be released for a short time and try to once again do battle with God, this time with all the unbelievers he can gather, but they will be quickly vanquished and finally cast into the Lake of Fire to live in eternal torment.

The Great White Throne Judgment

We now come to what is known as the Great White Throne Judgment.  This is where all the dead unbelievers are brought before God and given their final judgment as guilty for not worshiping God and will therefore will be cast into the Lake of Fire.

Heaven on Earth

Finally, God brings heaven down to earth and paves the streets with gold and joins His children in the New Jerusalem where they will remain for all eternity.  Until this point believers could only see God through His Son Jesus Christ but in the New Jerusalem they will be able to see God face-to-face.  There will be no darkness, no night, and no sun.  But there will be eternal daylight simply because God is present.

“And they will reign for ever and ever”  (Rev. 22:5)

Conclusion

I’ve left out many details because I want you to go to the Word of God and read His Words and not mine.  Beyond your reading of the book of Revelation, I’d like to encourage you to get a copy of Tim LaHaye’s book, “Revelation Unveiled.”  This will be a great blessing to you as you study the book of Revelation.  Tim unravels much of the mystery found in the book of Revelation and documents his teaching with other Scripture, other Bible scholars, and well researched personal study.  You’ll be provided with opposing points of view and more than one possible interpretation of many passages as Tim guides you toward his personal point of view and understanding.  I’ve read other works on the book of Revelation, but “Revelation Unveiled” is, in my view, the most accessible and easily digestible account of this important book.

BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.   (Revelation 1:7)
