Satan wants you to believe he doesn’t exist.
The Bible makes it abundantly clear that Satan is a real person. It’s also well established that he has demons roaming this earth looking to cause trouble for you and me. It can be argued that next to God, Satan is the most important being we need to learn about. Obviously, we don’t want to dwell on Satan and give him glory that he does not deserve, but we need to know who he is, where he came from, how he operates, and how we can appropriately deal with him and avoid his deception. Are you interested in the knowing the details of how our enemy operates? Would you like some strategies to avoid being misled by the devil and his operatives? I’m going to recommend to you a book that absolutely every Christian should read.
There is very little information about Satan coming from the pulpit of churches I’ve attended over the years. I can’t recall more than a passing mention of the devil in any service I’ve attended. When I went looking for a book to help me understand Satan, I couldn’t find anything that developed the topic in an in-depth way until I came across “Satan and his Kingdom” written by Dennis McCallum. Dennis is the pastor of Xenos Fellowship in Columbus, Ohio. After himself having a hard time finding a definitive source on the subject of Satan he decided to simply write his own book. If you’re anything like me, you’re looking for information that relies on solid Biblical support, careful research, and the wisdom of an experienced Bible scholar. Dennis delivers on all counts.
Questions About Satan
Who is Satan? Where did he come from? Why is he still on the loose? If you don’t know the answers to those questions, I’m sure you’ll want to hear the explanation provided in “Satan and his Kingdom.” Would you like to understand more completely how evil forces operated against individuals and against churches? Dennis will take you step-by-step through the Bible and show you clear Biblical teaching on the subject. He also spends time helping the reader understand what steps should be taken to resist temptation and other Satanic attacks. For most of us, Satan may not seem like a problem, but he can be very subtle and clever in his manipulation. Dennis offers some good advice on how we can keep our focus on Christ and keep our back turned on Satan. I know you’re interested in knowing all the enemy’s tricks.
If your Christian walk has been difficult from time to time, or if your church has faced hardship that seems inappropriate to the sincere worship and devoted hearts that visit each week, you may need to consider how Satan is actively pursuing disorder through temptation, accusation, and confusion. God wants us to endure these trials and do battle with the enemy in order to grow in strength and wisdom. Praise God we are not asked to fight this battle alone. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to defeat anything the devil can throw at us, but we can’t fight if we don’t know who and what it is we are fighting. You don’t want to wander onto the battlefield unaware of the danger. You want to arm yourself fully, see the enemy coming, plan carefully, and attack with the power of the Lord behind you. Reading “Satan and his Kingdom” will prepare you for the inevitable assault from Satan and point you toward practical steps to avoid defeat.
“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Standing Strong Against the Devil
To be able to flee from the devil, we need to recognize him and his minions every time they launch an attack against us. Once we made a decision to follow Jesus, we also began a lifelong battle with the evil one. In his book, Dennis reminds us of a popular saying, “If you haven’t run head-on into Satan, it’s probably because you’re both going the same direction.” The more time we spend moving closer to God, the more Satan will be actively seeking to disrupt our efforts. Satan has capabilities and limitations that are clearly laid out in “Satan and his Kingdom.” Studying this book will give you the inside knowledge you need to identify the devil’s deception. Knowing the enemy fully is our second best defense against him. Our best defense is something we should be calling on every day.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)
Believers clearly have the power to overcome Satan and his demons, but we have to know when and where to use that power to be effective. By studying the details of Satan’s battle plan and looking closely at his methods and abilities, we are better prepared to stand against him. Dennis McCallum has provided us with a fantastic resource that relies on the Word of God to reveal the enemy in the bright light of truth. I know you’ll be richly blessed by this study and also greatly empowered by the knowledge provided. This wonderfully researched book will give you tools to help you succeed in your Christian walk and help friends and family members avoid the schemes of those evil forces of darkness that are out to destroy all believers.
